Pre-colonial Era: Before the arrival of Spanish colonizers in the 16th century, Samal Island was inhabited by various indigenous groups, including the Sama-Bajau people. These seafaring communities lived along the coasts and engaged in fishing, trading, and boat-building.
American Colonial Period: In 1898, the Philippines fell under American rule after the Spanish-American War. During this time, Samal Island continued to be part of the larger Davao province under the American colonial administration.
Japanese Occupation: During World War II, the Philippines, including Samal Island, was occupied by Japanese forces. The island witnessed several battles and skirmishes during this period.
4.Post-War Era: After World War II, the Philippines gained independence from the United States in 1946. In the subsequent years, efforts were made to develop the country’s infrastructure and economy, and Samal Island saw gradual progress and growth.
